Introducing a new stripped down rock and roll machine. This Old 80 features a pine body with a torched finish, two RoadHouse humbuckers, and a Descendant blue collar bridge. The mahagony set-neck includes wenge fretboard with kunai shaped inlays.
This piece of pine was chosen for the wide open grain, that would react well to the torch. The burning process inverts the grain; darkening the light spots and turning the darker bits to a rich golden brown. It’s an exciting and somewhat unpredicatable way to finish an instrument. The burn is not particularly deep leaving a smooth surface. The satin oil poly finish is strong and smooth to touch.
The Roadhouse Triple-Crown pickups are exactly what you want from a humbucker set. Fat and rich in the the neck, bright and crunchy in the bridge.
The control plate is based on on the same vintage japanese model that inspired my headstock. The pickguard is painted gold from the rear, with a striking black pinstripe. Aluminum double helix knobs from Forney Custom lend a nice look to the piece.

The kunai shaped headstock badge / rod cover sits beautfully insde the headtock. Aged gold mini gotoh tuners look and function great. This piece of mahoanogy was purchased in the 1970’s, and has spent the last 40+ years ageing. It has been finish sanded to a fast and non-sticky satin.
